A new partnership will make hybrid satellite-cellular phones available to customers in the U.S. The service will provide normal cellular access when covered by AT&T's cellular network, and can seamlessly switch to the satellite network for coverage in remote areas of the USA, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands and in territorial coastal waters. Along with the new service, AT&T and TerreStar are announcing the Genus smartphone. This hybrid device runs Windows Mobile and offers quad-band GSM/EDGE and dual-band UMTS/HSDPA 3G radios. It has a 2.6-inch touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS, and is what AT&T calls "a standard smartphone size and form factor."

As far as 4G not really being a “model,” it's inclusion in a model name is meant to simply distinguish one phone's capability from another! As far as Verizon is concerned, no one is even close to beating the FIOS service they offer, all things considered. But the cell network has proven to be lagging behind and misleading in the Verizon/AT&T TV commercial wars, yet AT&T has more of a problem than they think with the iPhone in general. Mainly, Apple's refusal to include flash player in it's device, which prohibits you from logging in to impotant financial web sites. Flash is not only fading out, but required by more sites every passing moment. Hence, the iPhone 4G will become rapidly nonfunctional for smart phone users without it! As much as I love my iPhone, they are losing me as my ability to manage accounts is deminishing!

It's really the pros and cons of anything that determines what's right for you, so there really is no better and best for everyone. But I will say that, leaving FLASH out of the 4G, MAY VERY WELL BE THE BREAKING POINT FOR MANY iPHONE CUSTOMERS!

4G isn't really a "model". The term 4G refers to the connection being made; as in 3rd Generation. The "4G" networks that will roll-out (hopefully next year) will provide MUCH faster bandwidth as well as simultaneous data/voice (so does 3G but 4G = faster & better).
