Since the Lotus 7 launched at the London Motorshow in 1957, Caterham Cars has been producing the car that is “designed for racing, built for living”. Caterham purchased the rights from Lotus in 1973 and has been producing the car independently ever since.
Project Splitwheel, in partnership with Caterham, has launched the “world’s first project to design and build a new performance car online”. You can collaborate with other enthusiasts by discussing, contributing and voting on everything from engine options, to design specifications, equipment and everything else. This is the open source equivalent for cars.
No need to be an engineer. As long as you have a passion for cars, you can become part of the community calling the shots. More at the Splitwheel website for details.
